SPOTTED: The unidentified object was spotted in Devon

The incredible image was captured by amateur photographer Ben Landricombe in Plymouth days ago.

The council worker described seeing the unusual airborne object as he was driving to work.

He immediately turned his car around and drove back home to grab a camera and snap a pic of it.

“I saw the sparks coming down, travelling really fast”

Speaking to Devon Live, he said: ”I’ve never seen anything like it in my life.

“I was late to work, but I think my boss was alright. I showed everyone the pictures and they all said ‘Wow!’.

“I went to the highest point in Plymstock to take the pictures, where the big cross on the hill is.”

Mr Landriscombe thinks it was almost certainly a space rock shooting past planet Earth.

He added: “I missed the meteor coming through the atmosphere, but I saw the sparks coming down, travelling really fast.”

In two days, a massive asteroid the size of 40 double-decker buses is set to come uncomfortably close to Earth.

Asteroid 2014 JO25 was discovered a few years ago and will be visible to astronomers on April 19.
