Conspiracy theorists and UFO-logists claimed various governments have evidence of alien visitations which have been withheld from the public amid fears over potential impacts on religion and the rule of law.
Bill and Hillary have long intrigued the movement after making little publicised moves in the 1990s to bring about disclosure.
Things really heated up in January when Mrs Clinton said she wanted to open up on what is happening at the mysterious Area 51 military base in Nevada, where UFO conspiracists believe evidence of alien technology is hidden away.
Responding to questions about UFOs during an interview in New Hampshire, she said: “I am going to get to the bottom of it.”

These types of announcements may well gain Mrs Clinton votes from UFO fans.
However, some lobbyists would rather see a different form of disclosure from Camp Clinton.
The Paradigm Research Group is interested in claims aliens not only visit Earth, but secretly engage with world leaders.
It was set up to campaign for the lifting of what it is alleges is a “truth embargo” it says has been in force since the 1940s.
Executive director Stephen Bassett, 69, has been America’s only registered lobbyist on UFOs for 20 years.

We are not alone: The book she was clutching in close up
Rockefeller was part of the family considered to be one of the most powerful in US history after making a fortune through oil and banking.
From early 1993 the businessman began a lengthy approach to Bill Clinton for disclosure, including files held by the CIA, in what became the Rockefeller Initiative.
By briefing the late Dr John “Jack” Gibbons, then director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and advisor to the President, in 1993, Rockefeller brought about a review by the US Air Force of the legendary Roswell case.
Roswell has been at the heart of the UFO myth since July 1947 when the military sensationally announced it had found the remains of a crashed flying saucer near Roswell, New Mexico.

The Roswell review prompted by Rockefeller concluded there was no extra-terrestrial involvement and it was a balloon.
The UFO community branded the report a whitewash for not explaining any of the witness testimony.
Rather than lay the ghost of Roswell to rest once and for all, it gave conspiracy theorists more ammunition.
The US Air Force concluded it was not a weather balloon, but a top-secret nuclear-detection balloon, the type of which were being tested at the time.
It claimed the false weather balloon explanation was give at the time for national security reasons.
Aside from Roswell, Rockefeller’s negotiations included an ongoing plan to write a direct open letter to President Bill Clinton coupled with the threat of taking out adverts in the press, calling for full disclosure and an amnesty for official witnesses to come forward and avoid prosecution, if his demands were not met.
Rockefeller appears to have been held at bay from doing this by Dr Gibbons, but the looming threat appeared to carry some sway as Rockefeller secured the ears of Mr and Mrs Clinton at his own ranch.
The Rockefeller Initiative did not succeed in getting any UFO files released and wound down in the Fall of 1996. For the next 20 years no member of the Clinton team connected to or aware of Rockefeller will publicly say a word about it
Mrs Clinton was snapped later the same day walking through the ranch grounds deep in conversation with Rockefeller, clutching a copy of a book by Paul Davies called Are We Alone: Philosophical Implications of the Discovery of Extra-terrestrial Life.
Due to the persistence of researcher Grant Cameron, who used the Freedom of Information Act to obtain as much information about the initiative, before sharing it with the Paradigm group, we know the venture continued for just over another year.
A series of letters and memos between Rockefeller, co-campaigners, Dr Gibbons and other officials revealed the extent of discussions.
The documents also name both Clintons as being directly involved in the initiative after the meeting.
Steve Bassett is the only registered lobbyist on UFOs in the US
Aside from the Roswell report released in 1994, we know in 1995, President Clinton declassified millions of military and intelligence records, but not about UFOs.
Then the trail of what the Clintons did, tried to do or were prevented from doing goes cold.
What Mr Bassett and his many supporters find irksome, is despite all the current noise from camp Clinton about disclosure, he claims they have not spoken about the Rockefeller Initiative, what went on, and why it failed.
Nor have any of a 23 other surviving people who would have been aware of the initiative, he claimed.
These are made up of 10 from within government and camp Clinton and 13 campaigners or private individuals.
Mr Bassett said: “The Rockefeller Initiative did not succeed in getting any UFO files released and wound down in the Fall of 1996.
“For the next 20 years no member of the Clinton team connected to or aware of Rockefeller will publicly say a word about it.
“Mrs Clinton was directly involved in an effort to release all Government held UFO files to the public.
“The effort failed and she and other members of the Clinton administration decided to not speak.”
He has twice written open letters to Mrs Clinton, but not had a response. Attempts at getting the Obama administration to open up also failed.
•Twenty-two months after Bill Clinton left office Mr Podesta called for the release of all UFO files to the public on October 22, 2002 at the National Press Club and did the same there a year later
•In March 2004 Clinton team member former Congressman Bill Richardson challenged the Air Force explanation for the Roswell in the foreword of the book, Roswell Dig Diaries, a Sci-Fi Channel publication
•In 2010 Mr Podesta restated his desire for disclosure in a foreword to the book UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record by Leslie Kean
•In February 2015 Mr Podesta tweeted: “My biggest failure of 2014: Once again not securing the #disclosure of the UFO files.”
•On September 29, 2015 Mr Podesta tweeted about a reporter’s interview with Mrs Clinton, saying: “Ask her about aliens next time! #thetruthisoutthere.”
He said: “They have not asked a single relevant question of the 20 plus candidates seeking the presidency, let alone Secretary Clinton.
“What this means is these networks either think there is no news story – not likely – or they are completely in the tank on the truth embargo.”
Express.co.uk contacted Mrs Clinton through her campaign website and President Clinton, through the Clinton Foundation two weeks ago.
We asked them what each of their involvements was; what efforts either of them may have taken to achieve disclosure and any results; and why the initiative failed.
Despite chasing before publication, neither responded.
