Are so many UFOs seen now that they don’t all get reported to MUFON?

The US-based MUTUAL UFO Network (MUFON) is investigating after a stark drop in reported sightings for the first quarter of 2017.

MUFON is the world’s biggest organisation dedicated to alien research and keeps searchable online global database of suspicious sightings reported by the public.

Robert Powell, MUFON director of research, said reports from within the US were down by 32 per cent from January to March this year, based on the average amounts over the previous five years.

Domestic UFO reports for the first quarter 2017 are down a staggering 32 per cent as compared to the averse for the same period over the previous five years, according to Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) Director of Research Robert Powell.

From January 1 to March 31, 2017, the MUFON US database showed 992 UFO reports where the case occurred during January, February or March. 

The average over the last five years for that period was around 1,460 cases.

Mr Powell said: “We have no current explanation on why the drop in UFO sightings”

“One can speculate that people are seeing fewer UFOs or that they are just not reporting them.”

The National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC), also based in the US, which keeps a similar sightings database, has seen the same trend.

Its director Peter Davenport said: “NUFORC averaged about 1,402 cases during the first quarters 2012 through 2016.

“The first quarter 2017 is showing just 954 cases – about a 32 per cent drop as well.”

MUFON communications director Roger Marsh said: “Peter and I have traded stats over the years.

“If he calls and says he’s having a surge in reports in general, or with one particular shape, that wave is always mirrored in the MUFON database. 

“While some people report into both databases, most reports are actually unique to the database. 

“We’ve seen dips and highs in the past, and they usually run in two to three-month cycles.”

California has traditionally been the number one reporting state for UFO cases in any given month for years – but that status is somewhat misleading when you review populations.

MUFON Executive Director Harzan said: “There is a direct correlation between UFO television programming and UFO reporting.

“The shows apparently make people aware that they have a place to file a report. 

“When one of our ‘Hangar 1’ episodes is playing on the History channel – there is always an increase in reporting – although that surge does tend to be people recalling older cases.”

This year, the top five reporting shapes in 2017 to date are Sphere (186), Star-like (106), Circle (100), Triangle (73) and Disc (64).

But, if you do wish to see a UFO at the moment, MUFON says head to Oregon, the current UFO hot spot, in terms of sightings compared to the number of people. 

Mr Marsh said: “California has traditionally been the number one reporting state for UFO cases in any given month for years – but that status is somewhat misleading when you review populations. 

“There were 33 UFO reports from California in February 2017 – which is 0.87 reports per million people. 

 
“California holds rank as the most populated state – with more than 38 million people.

But during the same month – February – there were eight reports from Oregon – which equals 2.05 UFO reports for every one million people – from a state with a population of about 3.97 million.”  

He said the odds of seeing a UFO in oregon 

If you were choosing the best spot to night watch for UFOs – you have nearly 3-1 odds in Oregon over California when you review statistics by population.

​New Mexico was second for sightings per head of the population.

There were four UFO sightings reported to MUFON in February for New Mexico –  1.92 UFO sightings per million people.

Victor Viggiani, the senior strategic adviser to organisation, added: “All of the evidence that has been accumulated by researchers, military witness testimony, and acquired from declassified government documents over the last 70 years points to three very basic conclusions — the planet Earth has been and is being engaged by off-world civilisations.

“Earlier this month, the Spanish Ministry of Defence released a cache of previously classified UFO documents, similar to documents released by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in January 2017, and similar to other document releases from governments in the UK, Chile, and Mexico.

“NASA reported the discovery of additional habitable exoplanets (bringing the total to well over 3000) and just this month, former President George W Bush alluded to his knowledge of the UFO phenomenon in an interview on late night television with Jimmy Kimmel.

Sceptics claim there is no truth embargo, because no aliens have ever visited Earth.

They argue that if such a secret had been kept secret for so many years, particularly since the age of whistleblowing websites like Wikileaks began, that tangible evidence of aliens existing would have been leaked.

A witness in Charlottesville, Albemarle County, Virginia, has reported sighting and filming a mysterious triangle UFO that flew low in the sky over U.S. Route 29 north.

According to the witness in a report submitted to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) and filed as Case 77904, the sighting occurred at about 8:55 UTC on Sunday, July 24, 2016.

The witness submitted a report to MUFON on July 24, 2016, a few hours after the sighting at 11:41 UTC, according to Open Minds TV.

He also submitted a digital video of the sighting on July 24, 2016 (see video below).

The witness told MUFON that he was driving with his mother along Route 29 north and was approaching the Kroger and K-Mart stores in Charlottesville when he looked up and noticed the mysterious UFO with three lights hovering in the sky.

He described the aerial object as a “triangle UFO.”

“UFO triangle seen by myself and my mother around 8:55 p.m. July 24, over 29 north near Kroger and K-Mart in Charlottesville.”

It hovered in the sky briefly and then began moving northeast in a straight-line path until it disappeared from view. The sighting, at a viewing distance of about 20 feet, lasted about three minutes and 22 seconds, according to the witness.

The video clip submitted to MUFON shows a UFO with three white lights arranged in a triangular pattern and a red light flashing between the three white lights.

“A digital video was taken by me. UFO first stationary then moved to a north-east straight-line path and was gone.”

The startled witnesses can be heard in the video debating the nature of the mysterious object in the dark sky. One person thought it could be a drone but no one was sure what it was.

“What is that?” a woman asked.

“It looks like a drone,” her companion answered.

MUFON reported that a team of its investigators in Virginia was investigating the sighting. The organization, the largest UFO documenting and investigating body in the world, cautioned that “most UFO sightings can be explained as something natural or man-made.”

UFO hunters noted it was the second reported sighting in July of a triangle UFO with three lights.

The Inquisitr reported earlier in July that a family in Cumberland County, Maine sighted and filmed a UFO with three bright lights arranged in a roughly triangular formation.

The UFO hovered in the air briefly and then appeared to spin before disappearing from sight, Open Minds TV reported.

According to the witness in MUFON Case 77585, the sighting occurred at about 9:23 p.m. on July 4, 2016, while he was at home with his wife and teenage son.

His wife looked out of the window and saw an aerial object with three bright lights hovering overhead.

“My wife looked out the window and saw an object with bright lights high in the sky.”

He filmed the UFO using a 60x HD camcorder. He noticed it had red and green lights flashing in the middle of the three white lights.

“The object hovered stationary for several minutes,” he wrote. “Using my HD video camera, I zoomed in at 60x I could see an A-frame shape for each structure; a red and green light in the middle, and three bright, white lights on top.”

The witness said that at first he thought the object was a sophisticated large military drone, but he changed his mind when he noticed, while reviewing the video, that it appeared to spin before disappearing.

It appeared again momentarily before disappearing permanently.

The family was very excited about the sighting. The witness said his wife uploaded the video to her Facebook page, where it attracted a lot of attention. Some of her Facebook friends thought it was a drone, while others were convinced it was an authentic UFO sighting.

MUFON also published in June 2016, another remarkably similar sighting in Davis, California.

According to the witness in a report first filed on November 16, 2012, as Case 43950, the sighting had occurred on October 2, 2012.

The witness was able to capture a video showing a UFO with three bright lights arranged in a triangle pattern in the sky.

“I remember it being very early in the morning, maybe near two a.m., and thinking, why isn’t anyone else waking to this sound,” he told MUFON.

“I remember hearing a loud sound, of what seemed like horns, or trumpets from all around.”

The witness saw three lights in a triangle formation and other multicolored lights marking the sides of the UFO’s triangle shape.
